The ATIS CIO Council

ATIS’ CIO Council provides the industry’s premier venue for service-provider, CIO-level representatives to proactively identify and resolve challenging IT issues of common interest. The Council also provides direction with the development of industry standards, whitepapers and best practices supporting its priority initiatives. Currently, the Council counts AT&T, BT, CenturyLink, Qwest, TELUS, U.S. Cellular and Verizon as members, and is Chaired by Verizon’s CIO Shaygan Kheradpir.


TOPS Council Initiatives

Are You IPv6 Ready?
The TOPS Council's "Readiness Plan for IPv6 Transition" provides tools which enable organizations to assess current capabilities using defined readiness levels while simultaneously identifying transitional strategies. View all reports produced by the TOPS Council related IPv6 here.

Facilities Consolidation
The TOPS Council has formed a Task Force to identify the technologies and implementations which present opportunities for facilities consolidation and cost savings. The Task Force is also assessing potential impediments to consolidation, and any regulations that may affect the realization of these solutions.

Policy Management
A Focus Group has been formed to assess network Policy Management standards activities in a multi-carrier, multi-vendor, and multi-network environment. The Focus Group is also performing technical and operational assessments in the areas of Packet Processing, Convergence and Policy Charging Control.


Committee Updates

IPTV Interoperability Forum
ATIS, through the IIF, is developing the industry’s end-to-end solution for IPTV. Standards for provision of traditional broadcast over IPTV networks in complete and the IIF is now working on standards for delivering Content on Demand (COD) and targeted advertising.

WTSC Considers Commercial Mobile Alerts Services for LTE
ATIS’ Wireless Technologies and Systems Committee (WTSC) has initiated work on Commercial Mobile Alerts Services (CMAS) for LTE. Materially, this work enables the Federal Emergency Management Agency to accept and aggregate alerts from the President of the United States, the National Weather Service, and state and local emergency operations centers, and then send the alerts over a secure interface to participating wireless providers.

ESIF Launches New Work on NGN Emergency Services
ATIS’ Emergency Services Interconnection Forum (ESIF) has undertaken two new issues: Standardization of Request for Assistance Interface (RFAI) Specification, and conveying access subscription and other access information to the PSAP in the context of an IP-originated emergency call.
