NIPP-OAN Optical Access Networks
Mission:NIPP-OAN develops and maintains standards, technical requirements, and technical reports for systems and associated interfaces for optical access to telecommunications networks (e.g., G-PON). The work of this group focuses on physical and transmission convergence layer functionality, but also includes higher layer functionality such as equipment management, traffic management, and system-level issues related to optical access networking equipment. NIPP-OAN makes recommendations to NIPP on matters related to optical access before US and international standards organizations. Scope:The scope of work undertaken by NIPP-OAN includes the development and maintenance of standards and technical reports for systems and associated interfaces for transmission services providing optical access to telecommunications networks. It also includes the development of recommendations to NIPP on related subjects before other US and international fora. In order to develop user interface standards, implementation guidelines, technical requirements, and technical reports, consideration of the network and customer premises environments is necessary. NIPP-OAN maintains a close and coordinated liaison, through NIPP, with other ATIS Committees and with external standards setting bodies and fora.
