ATIS Congratulates Chuck Dvorak, 2006 ANSI Meritorious Service Award Winner

AT&T Labs Executive Director Honored for Decades of Telecom Standards Work

October 10, 2006, Washington – ATIS congratulates Dr. Charles A. (Chuck) Dvorak, one of the 2006 recipients of the Meritorious Service Award from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Dvorak was honored for more than 20 years of active leadership in the creation of telecommunications industry standards within ATIS and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

“Dr. Dvorak’s contributions to the standards development process, both nationally and internationally, qualify him as a preeminent contributor to standardization in the communications industry,” said ATIS President and CEO Susan M. Miller. “Via his leadership, efforts to promote market-driven standards have advanced greatly.”

Dvorak has served in numerous capacities in standards development organizations (SDOs) for more than 20 years, including leadership roles in the former ATIS Standards Committee T1 and the current ATIS Network Performance, Reliability and Quality of Service Committee (PRQC). He currently is the vice chair of the ITU’s Study Group 12, which focuses on QoS and reliability topics. In addition, Dvorak has served on ATIS delegations to the Global Standards Collaboration meetings, where ATIS and other SDOs share information in support of global telecom standards.

The winners of the 2006 awards were announced in August and will be presented tonight at a special dinner in Washington, D.C. as part of the U.S. observance of World Standards Week.
