July 23, 2008, Washington - ATIS today announced that leading experts from ATIS Board member companies will convene at a Green Workshop to be held in Washington, DC on July 29-30, 2008. The workshop is an opportunity for representatives from ATIS member companies within the information, entertainment and communication technologies industry to share lessons learned, compile best practices, consider Green products and service offerings, and help set steps towards establishing industry-based operational policies and benchmarks that will enable energy conscious practices and Green technologies.
“Having researched various green related programs and initiatives across the globe, and based on detailed discussion with our member companies, the ATIS Green Workshop will set in place the platform for companies to collectively work towards market-driven benchmarks to “quantify” conformity to, or levels of, being Green,” stated Susan Miller, President and CEO of ATIS. “Participants in the workshop together will explore the many “shades” of Green and discuss aspects where innovative strategies and next steps can be taken to advance the industry’s Green initiatives.”
Topics to be discussed at the workshop include corporate operations to reduce carbon footprints, the use of renewable materials, government regulations, applications and services to enable greater Green practices, network efficiencies, energy consumption of data centers, equipment supply-chain issues, product lifecycles and hazardous materials disposal, and the exploration of alternative energy sources. The workshop is anticipated to result in recommendations and proposed actions towards the development of industry-driven market-oriented benchmarks, educational conferences or seminars, and/or creation of a Web-based repository of relevant industry specifications and information.
