July 29, 2008, Washington - ATIS announced the publication of updates to the Simple Port Service Request (SPSR) Preparation Guide ( ATIS-0405085-0801), a document developed earlier this year in response to changes to the porting process by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The ATIS Ordering and Billing Forum (OBF) recently made updates to the SPSR Preparation Guide to better reflect the changes in the regulatory environment and the industry’s needs.
The SPSR Preparation Guide responded to a November 2007 FCC Declaratory Ruling, which directs carriers to update the simple porting process for local number portability (LNP). The FCC issued a subsequent Order extending the compliance deadline for the simple porting process to July 31, 2008.
“ ATIS OBF leads the industry inestablishing general business rules regarding the migration of end users between local service providers and in creating ordering and billing processes,” stated Susan Miller, President and CEO of ATIS. “ The ATIS OBF will continue to develop or revise processes and documents to address the new porting rule.”
Updates to the SPSR Preparation Guide will be included in the next version of the Local Service Ordering Guidelines (LSOG) to be published during the Third Quarter of 2008.
