MEDIA ADVISORY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 11, 2009

Bar Code/Standard Coding Committee Renamed
Automatic Identification and Data Capture Committee

The Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) announced today that its Bar Code/Standard Coding (BCSC) Committee’s name has changed to Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC) Committee.

The BCSC unanimously voted to change the Committee’s name to AIDC. Effective immediately, this change reflects the increasing significance of RFID and other non-bar code solutions to the identification ecosystem. The Committee’s name change more accurately characterizes the committee’s work on multiple identification technologies and establishes a connection with commonly-used industry terminology.

About AIDC
The mission of the AIDC is to establish guidelines for common shipping labels, product marking labels, product changes and software issuance standards. These common guidelines simplify the receiving, shipping, transportation and tracing of telecommunications products through company and industry business processes and the global supply chain.
