ATIS Co-Sponsors WSTS 2010 Conference

WSTS Opens Call for Papers

The Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS), Telcordia and the National Institute of Standards and Technology are co-sponsoring the 2010 Workshop on Synchronization in Telecommunications Systems (WSTS), “Next-Generation Sync in Networks: Challenges and Opportunities.” WSTS will be held March 9-11, 2010 in Broomfield, Colorado.

The 19th WSTS will focus on the inherent hurdles and efficiencies presented by the increasing shift from synchronous to asynchronous networks. Even with promising new application synching methods being developed into standards, next-generation networks (NGN) still haven’t reached their potential. WSTS 2010 aims to provide the opportunity to collaborate on the solutions which enable the NGN’s success.

Dr. Gerald FitzPatrick, the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Smart Grid Project Leader, will open the conference with a keynote address titled: Time Synchronization and Standards for the Smart Grid. Following Dr. FitzPatrick’s address, informational sessions will be held to discuss aspects of sync in communications systems, including: Standards Update; Challenges and Opportunities in Deployment of Network Time Protocol (NTP)/Precision Time Protocol (PTP)/Sync in Next Generation (NGN) timing; Sync Metrics, Masks, and Measurement; and more.

WSTS 2010 has also opened its call for papers, with a January 6, 2010, deadline. Papers can be submitted on-line at: http://tf.nist.gov/timefreq/seminars/WSTS/WSTSAgenda.html.
