Susan Miller, President and Chief Executive Officer
Susan Miller is President and Chief Executive Officer of ATIS, the leading standards development organization for the information, communications, and entertainment industry. Credited as an innovator in standards development, and with expanding ATIS’ reach and activities, Susan has been President and CEO since 1999.
Prior to her appointment as ATIS President, Susan served as the Association’s Vice President and General Council. In that capacity, she played an integral role in ATIS’ direction and ultimate evolution to where it is today. Before joining ATIS, Susan practiced telecommunications law at Weil, Gotshal & Manges.
Recognized as a woman in leadership, Susan has been honored by multiple trade and national organizations as well as the academic community. Susan has served on the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Board of Directors, the International Engineering Consortium Advisory Council, and the Institute for Teaching and Learning Excellence at Oklahoma State University. She has also served on the U.S. delegation to the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) and ATIS’ delegation to the Global Standards Collaboration. A graduate of Dickinson College and Catholic University’s Columbus School of Law, Susan lives in Maryland with her husband.

William Klein, Vice President of Finance and Operations
Bill Klein has more than 40 years in the communications industry—the last 19 with ATIS, and has been its Vice President of Finance and Operations for ten years. In this role his responsibilities include Finance, Information Technology (IT), Human Relations, Meeting Planning, Standards Processing and Publishing, and the ATIS Document Center, among others.
Prior to becoming a vice president, Bill served as Director – Industry Forums where he not only managed the administrative support for several ATIS committees, but was instrumental in the creation and launch of several others, to include the Network Reliability Steering Committee (NRSC). Prior to joining ATIS, Bill held positions in engineering, service costs, business relations, and federal regulatory at Bell Atlantic.

Thomas Goode, General Counsel
Thomas Goode is General Counsel for ATIS. In this role, he provides legal support for the organization and its 20 industry committees, forums and “Incubators,” and is also responsible for developing public policy positions in support of organization’s goals.
Tom previously worked for technology companies developing systems to provide broadband communications over powerline, including ONELINE AG. At ONELINE, Tom served as General Counsel and was in charge of developing North American operations. In this role, he managed legal, regulatory and business development activities and worked to develop partnerships with utilities in the US and abroad.
Tom has also served as Associate General Counsel with the United Telecom Council. In this role, he represented critical infrastructure industries before Congress and federal regulatory bodies. Tom helped to develop the association’s business development and global divisions, where he worked with international utilities seeking to develop new telecommunications businesses.
Tom has written numerous articles on telecommunications matters and on the entrance of nontraditional players, including utilities and pipelines, into the telecommunications and information technologies markets. He has been a frequent presenter at US and international conferences on telecommunications business opportunities.
Tom has a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland.

Maria Estefania, Vice President of Standards Development
Maria Estefania has more than 35 years of experience in the communications industry. Maria currently serves as Vice President of Standards Development for ATIS. In this role, she is responsible for directing the development of key industry standards, technical requirements, and guidelines for issues including interoperability and interconnection of emergency communications services and carrier networks.
Prior to joining ATIS, Maria was responsible for a variety of key communications functions for local exchange carriers including Bell Atlantic and C&P Telephone Companies.

Timothy Jeffries, Vice President of Technology and Business Development
Timothy Jeffries is Vice President of Technology & Business Development for the ATIS. In this role, he is responsible for advancing the long-term technical and operation priorities of the organization’s members; international relations with industry associations and standards bodies; and the development of new programs to support member requirements such as environmental sustainability.
Since joining ATIS in 2001, Tim has worked closely with the communication industry’s decision-makers, technical experts and standards groups to advance solutions for the deployment of the next-generation network and its products and services. Throughout his 21-year career in telecommunications, Tim has provided technical consulting and speeches on market trends for technology audiences throughout the world.
Prior to ATIS, Tim was the Director of Certification Programs at CTIA where he was responsible for managing the wireless industry’s global product certification programs.

Lauren Layman, Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations
Lauren Layman was named Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations at ATIS in March, 2008. In this role, she is responsible for ATIS’ marketing, membership and corporate communications.
Prior to joining ATIS, Lauren worked in marketing positions for both established and emerging companies throughout the United States and Europe. She served as a vice president of Cable & Wireless Inc. and as general manager of Aloha Teleconferencing in Hawaii and worked in product management for Colgate Palmolive SA in Portugal. As co-founder and partner of an international marketing consulting firm, Lauren has worked with early-stage wireless, software and Internet startups on all aspects of marketing and business development.
Lauren earned a B.A. in international relations from the University of Pennsylvania, and a master’s degree in international business studies from the University of South Carolina.
